Fostering & Foster-to-Adopt Program

We're dedicated to finding loving homes for as many animals as possible.  We have designed our Foster Parent & Foster to Adopt Program to ensure each animal is placed in the right home.  We created foster to adopt so you have the opportunity to interact with these beautiful souls in a different way.

Our Foster and Adopt program was created to ensure each horse is placed in a forever home, one where they will be loved and cared for unconditionally.

A little about our Foster & Foster to adopt process:

  • Start by completing our Foster Application
  • Then we will contact you to schedule an appointment to visit the ranch and meet all available foster animals.
  • If you find an animal you want to foster, next we will schedule a home inspection to ensure the environment is safe and appropriate for the animal you've selected.
  • If approved to foster/adopt over the next year, we will check in with you by phone, email, and quarterly on-site to follow the progress of the animal(s) in their new environment.
  • After 6 months of successful fostering, the animal is then available for adoption by the foster person/ family. The Foster can choose to adopt the animal(s) permanently, or continue to be a foster home.
  • Adoption is not a requirement and continuing to foster is acceptable.
  • There is no adoption fee, but the foster or new owner,  is responsible for all costs associated with housing, feeding, and basic care of their foster/adoptive animal.
  • FLM will pay or reimburses pre-approved veterinary expenses, pre-approved medications, and pre-approved corrective and/or medically necessary farrier work.

Come take a tour of our ranch and meet  all the amazing horses, donkeys and ponies looking for their forever home.

Virtual Adoption

Why try virtual Adoption?

Caring for an equine is a full-time job… and it’s expensive, but guess what?! There's another way you can ignite a magical bond with one of our rescues. Many of our rescues live their entire lives here with FLM. They’re still very special, lovable and could use a champion just like you.

Maybe a gift for a animal loving friend? You can symbolically adopt an animal in honor of a friend or family member. Trust us, there’s no gift more rewarding than knowing you’re helping an animal in need.

VIRTUAL ADOPTION STARTS AT

$15 a MONTH OR $180 a YEAR

The more you give, the more love you share! Plus, we’ll send you or the recipient a framed photo of your animal, along with his/her story. All you need to do is click the green button below & include the animal you wish to adopt in the payment notes.

FAQ's

Can you limit your fostering care to emergency circumstances only?

If you prefer or can only to be available for natural disasters or similar emergencies, such as hurricanes, floods, tornado's,  or wildfires, you can do that too. You’ll be placed on the fostering email list once approved to foster and you can volunteer in any situation or for any animal you feel comfortable with.

I have little to no livestock experience can I still foster?

ABSOLUTELY!  If you're willing to learn we are here to help train and support you every step of the way.  Most our rescues just need food, water, shelter, exercise attention and tons of love!   We would never place you or one of our rescues in an unsafe situation.  We do everything possible to match our Foster's up with an animal best suited for them.

Can I use my veterinarian to treat the animals I foster or must I use a vet approved by the rescue?

You can use any vet you like to treat the animals you foster. You must, however, get pre-approval for all veterinary work.

In an emergency, who decides to have the animal euthanized in an extreme medical situation?

In a life-threatening emergency the foster home should attempt to contact FLM for euthanasia approval. If the foster home cannot reach any of the listed emergency contacts, the foster home may authorize euthanasia if the attending veterinarian feels the animal needs to be euthanized immediately to prevent suffering. The foster home must then either email or call and leave a message for the emergency contact person within 2 hours.

What are the requirements for fostering an animal

Foster homes must be able to provide safe fencing, shelter, water, feed & grain for their fostered animals. Potential foster homes who have little horse experience or little experience rehabilitating horses are mentored by more experienced foster homes and FLM.
