Rooting Fur Rescue

Before I tell you our story, let me introduce the two humans who made my whole world possible: JJ & Lee.

JJ is the heart the one who loves big, rescues big, and feels everything deeply.

And Lee… he’s the backbone. The cowboy with steady hands, a quiet strength, and the kind of loyalty that holds a whole rescue together. Together, they built the home and the mission I was lucky enough to be part of.

Back in 2021, JJ and her dad rescued me as a wild mustang through the BLM's Wild Horse & Burro Program.  They brought me to the place that became our home the home JJ and Lee built together for animals like me.  When JJ’s dad passed in 2025, and then I crossed the rainbow bridge not long after, it broke her heart in ways I wish I could’ve protected her from.....but she wasn’t alone.

She had Lee the man who shows up for every hard moment, every injured animal, every goodbye she can’t bear to face.  When I passed, he insisted on bringing me home himself, so I could rest on the land that loved me… That’s who he is. That’s who they are together.

And when grief settled heavy over our home, something unexpected began to grow… plants.  First the prickly ones, then the leafy ones that filled their home with life when everything else felt like loss. 

Now those plants are helping JJ & Lee reopen the doors of the rescue they built with so much love.

Helping them care for the animals still here.

Helping them make room for the ones who haven’t arrived yet.

Helping them turn heartbreak into hope.  JJ didn’t know it then, but every plant she brought home was a seed of healing and the beginning of the future she and Lee would grow together. 

When you take home a plant from Rooting Fur Rescue, you’re not just buying something beautiful.  You’re helping my humans rebuild.

You’re helping our sanctuary become a rescue again.

You’re helping lives human and animal  take root and grow.

I may be gone from the pasture, but I’m still watching over our home.
